STATUS: pASSED PLANNING REVIEW
This project rebuilds a family home focused around its existing backyard design — featuring an outdoor kitchen, pool and landscaping that all survived the Eaton fire. The plan aims to maintain a strong connection to the backyard, while also making better use of its underutilized front yard.
The previous home had two living rooms, a separated dining room, and 3 ground floor levels. The new design, all on one level, features a more open kitchen/living/dining space that connects to the backyard, while the bedrooms are located in a separate wing stretching forward on the site. The guest bedroom/office, den, pool bath, and laundry are located between the public and private wings off of a vaulted hallway with a skylight and built-ins. This interstitial zone also connects the front entry, exterior courtyard, and expanded parking area at the back of the driveway.
The home’s massing takes advantage of the mountain views to the north/east, and provides a large shaded outdoor area which the previous design was lacking.
