The house was designed by the Architect of many notable commercial buildings in Glendale and is a former Mayor. He built this house for himself and his family. The project needed to address; a dark 80’s kitchen, no direct connection to the backyard, and living areas that were separated from the kitchen by the entry and stairwell. The Clients had great respect for the existing house, but wanted to be able to update the lifestyle patterns the house could accommodate. The addition of a family room with openings to backyard allowed for more living off of the kitchen. The house a contributing structure in a Historic District and on the Registry. Special attention had to be paid to the massing, scale and details of the Addition. The project was reviewed by the Glendale Historic Preservation Committee.
